About Me

This is my seventh year of teaching and my second year as a third grade teacher.  I attended Mary Washington College and received a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology.  About two years after graduating, I decided I wanted to go back to school and become a teacher.  I was accepted into the University of Richmond's Teacher Licensure Program and completed the program two years later.  In the midst of all of this, I met the man I would marry (Kevin) while we were both working at Circuit City's Corporate Office.  In July 2001, we were married (making me the "mom" of Kevin's two black labs-Abigail and Samantha) and we are celebrating our 10th anniversary this summer.

In December 2001, I was thrilled to receive a 5th grade teaching position at Robious Elementary!  I taught 5th grade for 3 years, but when my daughter (Brooke) was born in 2004, I decided to stay at home with her.  Two years later, my son (Connor) was born and we moved to Midlothian from the West End.  I knew I would return to teaching one day, so I began substituting at RES when we "crossed the river."  When I was ready to return to work in 2009, I was very lucky to return to RES as a 5th grade teacher.  After teaching 5th grade for 2 years, I made the move to 3rd grade.  I quickly realized that this is the grade I am meant to teach!  I always enjoyed teaching 5th grade, but 3rd grade has that "just right" feeling for me.

Fortunately, I am able to bring my children to school with me.  Brooke is in second grade this year, and Connor is in kindergarten.  My role at RES has definitely changed throughout the years, and I am proud to be both a Robious teacher and a Robious parent.

In my free time (which there isn't much of!), I enjoy reading, running, and collecting recipes.  I love books that keep me turning the pages, and I'm always on the lookout for a good book.  As far as running is concerned, I'm not sure I really enjoy it, but it's a great way to stay in shape and burn off the calories from all the chocolate I love to eat!  I am an avid recipe collector, but not so much a recipe maker!  Clipping out delicious sounding foods is so much easier than making them, but I have recently begun to challenge myself to prepare the recipes I've collected over the years.   I also enjoy watching HGTV, decorating my home, and working in the yard.

I am looking forward to getting to know the parents and children in my class this year as we embark upon the 2011-2012 school year.  We have many adventures ahead of us, and I can't wait to experience them with all of you!
